Kunzite is the best known form of the mineral, Spodumene. It was first identified as a unique stone by the geologist, George Fredrick Kunz and subsequently named after him. It gets its luminous pinkish/lavender color from trace amounts of Manganese. The most significant source of Kunzite is San Diego County in the USA.
