Charles Fast Horse Beaded Bag

Charles Fast Horse (1941-2015) created these traditional bags with his wife, Hazel. He was born to the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. Fast Horse was an artist, medicine man, and historian. This bag dates to the 1980s and was originally purchased in Santa Fe.

The total length, including the strap and fringe is 33". The beaded body of the bag measures 12-1/2" long and 7 1/2" wide. The fully beaded strap is 24" long and 2-1/2" wide. Constructed of deer hide, it is embellished with glass beads, brass bells, Abalone discs and four horse hair tassels. The back of the bag is unadorned deer hide and it is signed by the artist.
