The focal of this necklace is a rare Venetian glass trade bead, no chips or cracks, circa 1850, called an 'elbow' because of the curved shape. These historic beads were used for trade with indigenous people by the European explorers. Tribal communities fell in love with the brilliant colors and patterns. Much lore is attached to these beads, and they are no longer available from the African traders who were the last to deal in these beads. Strung with 8mm Anglelite, an icy blue stone from Canada, and six handmade Navajo Sterling Silver beads, the necklace finishes to 19-1/2" and the kit includes all beads, plus a Sterling Silver clasp and crimps, stringing material, instructions, and layout of the design.
Price is for one kit.
Comes with a monograph on the identification and lore of Venetian trade beads.
