This kit's focal is Mary Lou Tompkin's handmade clay 'working class cat,' ready for a hard day's work in his overalls. Mary Lou left us at the age of ninety-four in 2017. All her pieces were one-of-a-kind and expressed humor, history, joy, and a sly irreverence. She also created sculptural wall pieces, assemblages, and retablos which you can see at our Cocopah North and Cocopah at Tlaquepaque stores in Sedona.
The cat comes already attached to a silver headpin with a Peruvian clay bead (made by descendants of the Inca) and an antique white trade bead. Strung with white trade beads (circa 1900...traded along the Santa Fe Trail), 4mm and 6mm Red Jasper and Peruvian clay, it finishes to 30". Kit contains stringing material, instructions, layout of the design, Sterling Silver clasp, and crimps.
Price is for one kit.
Quantities limited.
Will be $250 when it goes to the site on July 1.
Comes with a biography and remembrance of Mary Lou Tompkins, who was Arizona's premier beadmaker, much loved and missed.
