The Tuareg are a semi-nomadic people of North African Berber origin who once controlled the caravan routes across the Sahara. Today they live in Algeria, Libya, Mali, and Niger. The silversmiths are called 'Ibadan' and in addition to their artistic pursuits, they are custodians of oral tradition and poetry. These pendants are traditionally strung with black glass beads and long silver tube beads. Pendants measure 3 1/2" long and date to the 1960 when the collector bought them in Mali. We love them as they are, but think the pendants could be restrung with trade beads, Turquoise, Coral, ethnic coins or Amber for a powerful statement piece.Necklace finishes to 28" and they usually sell for upwards of $150, so we were delighted with this find and wanted to share it.Price for pendant/necklace.
